when Samsung revealed Galaxy S25 series in January, It also presented the circular battery supply chain program. This initiative focuses on sustainability by collecting old galaxy phones and recycling its batteries to create new batteries for Galaxy S25 Look.

In fact, for the first time, a closed -loop battery recycling system is applied to the leading Samsung series and now the company has revealed more details on how the process works.

According to Samsung, the production facilities in Vietnam collect about 200 tons of waste battery materials annually. Some countries with advanced recycling systems re -distribute these materials for things like electric vehicle batteries, but Vietnam lacks the necessary infrastructure.

To address this gap and promote sustainability, Samsung says she took things in its hands, with a solution to make sure that these materials are not lost.

Therefore, first, the company collects old galaxy devices. After that, the next step is to remove the batteries, empty them and tear them into smaller pieces.

The third step includes treating these cut pieces in a soft powder called "black mass", then improved to extract recycled cobalt.

In the next stage, extracted cobalt is used to create cathode materials. Finally, these cathode materials are used to produce batteries Galaxy S25.

Cobalt plays an important role in ensuring the stability and performance of lithium ion batteries in smartphones. Why? Well, lithium moves the electrons inside the battery, but cobalt helps in facilitating the movement of lithium, ensuring that the battery is working at its best.
