Just when I thought Samsung had no more secrets up its sleeve before yesterday's Unpacked event, the tech giant surprised me (and many like me) with the surprise announcement of a fourth event. A member of the Galaxy S25 family.
Of course, I'm using the term "ad" loosely there, like 40 seconds The Galaxy S25 Edge teaser will likely make even the most skilled Hollywood directors jealous with its vagueness and lack of clarity.
But because we still don't know a lot about this phone (like when it's supposed to be launched, how much it will cost, and what specifications it will offer), it gave me the opportunity to think about the only details. Samsung was gracious enough to reveal it after concluding its comprehensive presentation about S25, S25 Plus and S25 Ultra.
What's in a name?
Usually, not much. The product branding strategies of savvy companies like Samsung rarely have a deeper meaning than explaining that Device But sometimes, a phone with no clear predecessor will see the light of day, and when that happens, companies need to come up with slightly more creative monikers.
While certainly unprecedented, A The name Galaxy S25 Slim probably sounds stupid for a first-of-its-kind product that's looking to breathe fresh air into a somewhat stagnant phone lineup. Enter the S25 Edge, which I honestly didn't expect for a very simple reason - I completely forgot about the likes of it galaxy note edge, S6 Edge, W S7 Edge.
It's certainly not Samsung's business to bring device names back from the dead (that's Motorola's specialty), and it's particularly strange to see the company promising A Galaxy S25 Edge model that doesn't appear to have anything that comes with any of those other Edge-branded phones. I mean, it's not like we're expecting this ultra-slim 2025 flagship to come with any sort of secondary screen gimmick, right?
Very similar to the last one In the Motorola Edge variants, the S25 Edge also appears to have a completely flat panel based on the images we were able to capture of a prototype shown off at the Unpacked shindig party on January 22, which makes this naming choice seem even more strange. unless...
There are those who feel nostalgic!
I know, I know, I'm probably reading too much into the moniker that Samsung may have chosen simply because it undoubtedly sounds cooler than Galaxy S25 SlimBut what if? Galaxy S25 Edge is (indirectly) aiming to set us up to revive a dream we've all been wanting for a very long time?
While I obviously don't expect to see The Galaxy Note 21 came out five years too late, and as if nothing had ever happened to the once-mighty S Pen family of smartphones, I feel like the Galaxy S26 Note isn't completely out of the realm of possibility.
In a (weird) way, adding a Note-branded device to the Galaxy S series next year would explain what happens to the company's famous stylus this year. I know the theory is that The Galaxy S25 Ultra lacks a stylus Some crucial functionality of its predecessor to reduce costs and thus be able to retain the retail prices of the S24 Ultra while packing a much more expensive processor around the world.

It is also rumored to be Samsung Drop the digitizer component thus eliminating S Pen support from Galaxy Z Fold 7 is perfect for making the next generation of book-style power as slim as possible. But what if these changes are (also) aimed at making the 2026 Galaxy S26 slate look more special?
Yes, I realize it soundsβ¦ counterintuitive to throw away beloved features and capabilities today and bring them back just a year later as a major selling point for a new βflagshipβ device, but isnβt that (more or less) what Galaxy S25 Edge is everything? Yes, that waist looks a little slimmer than we all expected then Those renders were recently leaked, but let's not act as if ultra-thin phones are something we've never seen before or previously thought was impossible.
Likewise, a Galaxy S26 Note that has all of the S24 Ultra's S Pen skills revived (and perhaps a few entirely new ones added into the mix) won't reinvent the wheel, but it will be done right and with the proper respect given to the Galaxy Note's legacy. Family from 2011 to 2020, can certainly provide the mix of nostalgia and modernity that many hardcore fans are currently dying for.
