Last year, Samsung collaborated with Google to promote adoption of Rich Communications Services (RCS), a modern messaging standard that allows users to send messages and make calls over the Internet and allows for more interactive and secure conversations than SMS and MMS. Samsung hopes wider adoption will help with a seamless global messaging experience.

Samsung has slowly moved away from its messaging app. It began installing Google Messenger as a default app on its flagship smartphones in 2021. In July 2024, with the release of Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6, stop preloading Samsung Messages on flagship phones in the US.

In December, Verizon announced this Samsung Messages will stop supporting RCS on its network starting January 6, reverting instead to SMS and MMS.

It is not known whether Samsung Messages will still be available for download Galaxy S25 Users. The app may provide a poor experience, forcing people to stick to Google’s messaging.

While some users may be upset by this change, since Google Messages doesn’t have all the features of Samsung Messages, like chat folders and message organization, others may welcome the change. After all, why have two messaging apps on your phone when one is enough?

It is also unknown whether Galaxy S25 Variants sold in regions other than the US do not have Samsung messaging anymore.
