Apple may remove iPhone encryption in UK over backdoor demands

[ad_1]

UK security officials ordered the creation of a rear door that gives them access to all the content that has been loaded by any Apple user around the world to the cloud. It is a new brave world there. Of course, there is no panic, because it is more than the same - monitoring, control, digital spy, etc.Washington Post reports on the sources revealed. This request, which was issued under the UK Investigation Law for the year 2016, requires unrestricted access to encrypted data rather than helping in specific accounts.

If implemented, this will determine a great precedent, which leads to the efforts of technology companies for a long time to protect the user privacy.

Instead of waiving the security assurances provided to its users, Apple is expected to stop encrypted in the UK. However, this step will not fulfill the request to reach encrypted content stored in other countries, including the United States. It is prohibited on Apple to notify users if their data is weakened, which increases concerns about privacy and government control.

Apple has the option to appeal the guidance before a secret technical committee and a judge, but the law does not allow delay in compliance during the appeal process, says the report.

In March, this request was expected, the company warned that the UK should not have the power to define global encryption standards. Apple has placed itself as a champion of the user's privacy, and previously resisted government efforts to weaken encryption, including a request from the FBI to cancel the iPhone lock linked to a terrorist attack.

The UK government argues that encryption enables criminals and terrorists to evade law. Security agencies in the United States and the United Kingdom have expressed concerns about their increasing use behind the traditional phone movement. However, technology companies insist that weakening of encryption will create weaknesses by infiltrators and authoritarian systems.

Other companies have also taken strong encryption positions. Google, who has encoded the Android backup since 2018, said this data cannot be accessed even with a legal order. Meta offers encrypted backup copies of WhatsApp, but it confirms that it will not implement the background.

If the UK achieves access to encrypted data, other governments, including China, may demand itself, which may force Apple to completely withdraw the service.
